The Psychology Department offers programs in psychology at the undergraduate and graduate level.  The undergraduate program features broad training in psychology, with a strong emphasis on experimental psychology.  In addition, the department offers opportunities for hands on experience in research and in field placements.  The graduate program offers an on-campus Master's degree, an online Master’s degree and a PhD (on-campus only).  All three programs emphasize cognitive psychology (cognitive and perceptual development, language processing, motor learning, prospective memory, cognitive neuroscience), engineering psychology (human factors, usability, human-computer interaction, automation, auditory perception, unmanned aerial vehicles) and social psychology (social cognition, evolutionary psychology, emotions, close relationships, attitudes, gender).

The NMSU Psychology Department is comprised of 13 full-time faculty members, two office staff professionals, approximately 50 graduate students, and approximately 400 undergraduate majors.  The department maintains student chapters of Psi Chi (the national Honor Society in Psychology), Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, and an active Graduate Student Organization.
